In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.

Language Arts Overview

Students at St. Mary's are required to compose persuasive and explanatory essays, letters, personal narratives, and various creative pieces (poems and short stories). They are encouraged to develop their own voice and style of writing using models from their life experiences and their readings. Vocabulary development is emphasized when using dictionaries, thesauruses, and enhancing written pieces through the use of technology. Grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are presented and learned in the context of student writing. The curriculum also incorporates effective speaking and oral presentations. Collaboration is encouraged in group discussions while reading and analyzing various genres of literature and student works.
